Pudding the Corgi

A year after we first came to know that Le bro bought over a corgi from his friend and intended to gift to us, the process was held back by both lengthy administrative procedures and the border closure in the midst of Covid pandemic, our doggo has finally flew into Singapore on the 29 Sep 2020! He will soon be joining us after the 30 days quarantine which we have 10 more days left to go~

I guess so this is how we got a dog in the end, my very first pet in life. While Lnr and I did discuss getting a Corgi for ourselves prior to Le bro's surprise present, factors like cost of Corgi puppy and the commitment required have always held us back. And here we are, bestowed as newly pet owners. The process to bring in a pet from overseas, especially a Category D listed country was somewhat lengthy and tedious, and requires about 3-6 months preparation in advance. We engaged an agent to settle the procedures in China and applied to AVS ourselves for the 1) Sembawang Animal Quarantine Station reservation 2)Dog license 3) Import license 4)Changi Animal & Plant Quarantine inspection upon arrival. The total cost including the manifested cargo for doggo was about S$4000+/-, as well as poor doggo's traumatic experience of flying alone and quarantine for 30 days upon arrival.

I wonder what he thought about everything that's happening around him sometimes, being locked in a crate and carried up a plane and arrive in a humid country with new faces whom he has never seen, if he felt abandoned by le bro whom he stayed with for a year. Thankfully doggo has recovered from the initial shock pretty well and has been well taken care of during his ongoing quarantine. With us, le mum and le cousin taking turns to visit him daily as much as possible. He's also been fairly responsive to us by wagging his lil tail whenever he sees us, sitting by the fence to bark and bid goodbye as we leave. Initially I wonder if I would enjoy his presence and love him considering that we probably wanted to bring up a dog from its puppy stage, but at the end of the day I am just really happy and relieved that Pudding has arrived in Singapore safe and sound. Right pudding, that's the name I have had in mind for the longest time if I ever had a corgi, and here he is. A fully brown-white corgi right here waiting for us~

I had been doing a lot research during the few weeks prior to his arrival, from grooming to dietary to intellectual training and house training. It was a mixture of nervousness while I looking forward to his arrival at the same time. At our first 'meet and greet' was at the Changi Animal & Plant Quarantine Center near the airport in the photo above, he was rather timid and I suppose insecure too (also, he is a lot bigger in size than I imagined!) After 3 weeks of interaction, pudding has grown a lot friendly and happy as he took his first shower last Wednesday on the right huehue. And I been look forward to every visit too~ In time to come, I devote to be a good dog owner, and give doggo lots of love and care, praises and treats, so that we will all create loads of happy memories together. Time to explore the pet friendly side of Singapore~

Welcome home Pudding!
