人-tional Day.
People mountain people sea - the perfect description for the crowd over the Jubilee weekend. Despite a significant proportion of the nation has probably went on a short getaway overseas, I'm truly impressed by the patriotic/ follow-the-crowd spirit by those who stayed. No doubt the vast budget put into SG50 was quite worthwhile, and now the media can make another hit about the 'unity' and 'bond' amongst Singaporeans over the nation.
To fully facilitate my very own long weekend, okay not really considering I was on holiday the past three month, decided to value self over money and work two out of four days. Though frankly I don't think Obar will be any crowded over the weekend, there are better place to go to for obvious reasons.
Spent some time with le mum on Friday, caught Mission Impossible on the big screen. Had some Dimsum at Crystal jade with some disgusting National day special XLB - namely chilli crab and chicken rice flavor. Feel like I'm spending lesser time with le mum ever since her boyf sold off his car and transport gets in the way. But again I believe she would appreciate it better if I picked up more chores at home and help her in the other ways in daily life instead of going out for meals while neither of us are a big fan of food.
On the second day, to embrace the free events set up for the people to celebrate the nation's birthday, I ambitiously set the itinerary with tan as visiting the Dreamworks Free Exhibition AND climbing up the Free Merlion Sentosa, upon reaching Art science museum by 3.30pm and greeted by a long human train from one end of MBS to the other, my hopes extinguished instantaneously as we move towards the end of the queue and realised the waiting time is 3 hours and the queue was closed for the time being.
Made our way to Bugis to catch 1965 upon request of Terry tab, because in his words ' national day must watch 1965 then got feel ', which later turns out to be draggy show with super slow pace storyline, guess it was hard to the local production to make something out of very minor history events. Was lucky to passed by some small scale SG50 exhibition near the National Library which displays nostalgic and iconic lego designs on Singapore.
Dinner was settled on Nan Hwa Fish Head Steamboat under Tab's recommendation which turns out to be the best part of the day, the soup is really tasty although I'm not a fish head eater, but again the Garoupa fish soup we ordered did not come with any fish head. Although it costs us $57 for the meal which is a little expensive but well, my stomach was very satisfied. :') And I occasionally think back to my dieting days, it feels so contented now to be eating without much constraints yet not gaining weight exponentially.
And coming to the actual day of nation wide celebrations~ First greeted by the Free public transports for the day, Gahmen really 砸重金 to bring SG50 up to sky high this year. I paused to think if there would be a day where we have Free rides permanently in Singapore. Though it's unlikely under the current situations but who knows what will happen in another 30 years time right?
Ahtan and me ( ohyeah it's Tab again keke, considering he was away for Europe for over a month, it's time for him to resurface and spend some quality time with me to maintain our relationship ties ~ ) arrived at MBS at almost 7 and without a doubt, the amount of people was astonishing, doors around the building were mostly closed because there was no room for people outside, entrance was flooded with humans, escalators was down, families lay out their mat and start picnic-ing on the floor inside Mbs. Scenes you don't witness on any other days.
Eventually we went with the flow and landed up at a spot perfectly blocked by two trees, and that remained as our view for our wonderful once every 50 years fireworks. Ohwell, could have been better, could have been worse. I truly felt sorry for those brought their young children or elderlies out squeezing with half the Singapore like Sardines. No more squeezing any other years upon experiencing this SG50 crowd. D;
End the night with a drink along Haji lane with some adventurous moment and Bakchormee at the back lane of Bugis. It was a good day still, despite the crowd, despite the sweat, despite the two trees, I guess eventually it's the companion you are with that will set everything right and make it good out of nothing sometimes. Don't know if I will live to see SG100, but if I do, I hope I will be able to witness it with someone worthwhile again. :)
